To go to America, most migrants had to cross the Atlantic ocean. The crossing was uncomfortable and sometimes horrible but it was worth it. When they arrived in America, the first thing they saw was the Statue of Liberty, symbol of hope and freedom.
When they finally reached the continent, they had to pin identity tags on their clothing and then they had to go to Ellis Island to get examined.
Once there, they had to from line to be examined by two doctors. The first doctor looked for physical and mental abnormagrands had to undergo, a complete medical exam. If not, they had to move on the registation desk to answer questions.
When they couldn't answer questions, they had to sit, rest and try again. And sometimes they were detained for additional examinations or questioning.
