Bonjours 'je n'arrive pas à faire cette exercice sur le prétérit merci de m'aider

Exercice 1 :

During the WWI, the conditions of life were terrible and the soldiers lived in very bad conditions in the trenches. They spent their time doing chores, they slept with rats, they ate disgusting food and drank water that made them ill. They defended the trenches against the attacks from the ennemy, they attacked the ennemy, They had to clean their rifle and a commander inspected them. They wrote diaries or letters to their loved ones. 

Exercice 2 : 
 
1) The soldiers didn't sleep a lot in the tranches.
2) The weather wasn't fine in winter and the trenches weren't dry.
3) The soldiers didn't eat very delicious food and didn't drink a lot of warm tea.
4) The soldiers didn't live in quite good conditions and didn't have very nice bathrooms.
